Education Center

The education center is one of the pillars of the educational process at the university with its multiple roles of planning, implementing, and following-up activities for ensuring the quality of the educational process, developing and supporting it. The center occupies an important place within the university’s goals and its strategic plan, for the services provided by this center within the framework of a set of local and international quality standards and objectives that aim to raise Productive sufficiency, keeping up with the requirements of the times and facing its challenges, by employing the university’s capabilities, capabilities and the distinguished experiences of the university’s employees and members of its teaching staff in all fields and disciplines at the university to achieve these goals.

The center provides all services that enable faculty members and students to make the most of the resources and environment provided by the university to make the educational process an enjoyable, rich, and effective experience. The educational center provides its various services through its various units, which are happy to receive requests and contributions from faculty members by requesting or providing consultations, training, and various services.

Mission:

To achieve excellence in learning and teaching at the Almaarefa, by preparing strategic plans, policies, and programs in teaching and learning and supervising their implementation, and transferring and localizing the best global initiatives to develop the level of educational practices and improve student learning at the university.

Vision:

The Education Center is embodied in becoming one of the pioneering models in developing university education.

Objectives:

  1. Follow-up to the following of the education center in the university’s strategic plan for learning and education, and to enhance cooperation in the implementation procedures it requires and the development of all processes and procedures.
  2. Transferring and settling the best international practices in learning and teaching, and managing them according to a pioneering institutional vision and global professional specifications.
  3.  Creating quality initiatives and developing plans and initiatives necessary to develop the level of educational practices at the university and improve student learning at the university.
  4. Follow-up and evaluation of academic programs, evaluation of learning and teaching outcomes, preparation of studies, and reports to analyze the university’s educational reality and anticipate its future in light of recent changes and developments.
  5. Building partnerships and building bridges of communication with relevant local, regional, and international institutions in order to develop learning and education at the university.

Structure and Functions of the Education Centre:

The Education Centre is the body which will be responsible for ensuring that the learning environment at Almaarefa University is providing the most advanced and up-to-date learning opportunities for its learners and is continuously improving.

The Assessment and Evaluation Unit:

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Following the implementation of the assessment and evaluation strategy of the curriculum to ensure that the assessment and evaluation activities the used are fit for purpose (valid, reliable & objectives)
  • Establishing and maintaining an electronic question bank through an assessment committee
  • Ensuring that the assessment tools used follow the recommended format and quality standards through an assessment committee
  • Proposing training activities pertinent to assessment and evaluation in collaboration with the Continuing professional development chairperson
  • Proposing research projects and initiatives in the fields of assessment and evaluation in collaboration with the research unit
  • Providing consultation and advice in the field of assessment and evaluation to those who ask for it or need it
  • Developing policies, procedures, standards, guidelines and regulations that direct the processes of assessment and evaluation
  • Participating in the development of the strategic plan for the EC

The Continuing Professional Development Unit 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Organizing and conducting activities in the field of faculty development for the teaching staff of the college based on needs assessment and in response to recommendations by chairs of other units
  • Organizing and supervising the implementation of training activities offered by the various departments of the college in collaboration with the respective provider
  • Organizing and conducting activities in continuing professional development offered to students, health care providers and educators
  • Proposing research projects and initiatives in the field of continuing professional development in collaboration with the research unit
  • Providing consultation and advice in the field of research in continuing professional development to those who ask for it or need it
  • Developing policies, procedures, standards, guidelines and regulations that direct the processes of continuing professional development
  • Participating in the development of the strategic plan for the EC

The curriculum unit:

Duties and responsibilities:

The Curriculum unit will be responsible for: Following the curriculum blueprint and course syllabi to make sure that they are properly documented and that they are appropriate, up-to-date and are aligned with the competences of the Saudi MED

    a. Taking care of review processes in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders.

Those processes include changes recommended after surveys and reports and  those necessitated by new developments and trends in the field of health professions education

    b. Proposing training activities pertinent to curriculum design and review in collaboration with the Continuing professional development chairperson

    c. Providing consultation and advice in the field of research in curriculum and course design

and review to those who ask for it or need it

    d. Proposing research projects and initiatives in the fields of curriculum design and review in   collaboration with the research unit

    e. Developing policies, procedures, standards, guidelines and regulations that direct the curriculum design and review

    f. Participating in the development of the strategic plan for the EC

The Independent Learning Student Support Unit:

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Following the implementation of the teaching and learning strategy of the curriculum to ensure that the learning approaches (SPICES) are appropriately applied and that the teaching and learning situations used are fit for purpose
  • Providing the support needed for the establishment, maintenance and effective utilization of the virtual learning environment in collaboration of the e-learning and educational technology unit
  • Proposing training activities pertinent to teaching and learning in collaboration with the Continuing professional development chairperson
  • Proposing research projects and initiatives in the fields of teaching and learning in collaboration with the research chairperson
  • Providing consultation and advice in the field of research in teaching and learning to those who ask for it or need it
  • Developing policies, procedures, standards, guidelines and regulations that direct the processes of teaching and learning
  • Participating in the development of the strategic plan for the EC
