Today, the College of Pharmacy at AlMaarefa University signed a training cooperation contract with the Saudi Society for Clinical Pharmacy (SSCP) aimed at contributing to activating the accredited professional licensing programs for health practitioners from pharmacists.

The agreement was signed by the Vice President of the University, Dr. Nasser bin Ali Al-Jarallah, on the part of Al-Maarefa University, while the Saudi Society for Clinical Pharmacy (SSCP) was represented by the President of the Association, Prof. Ahmed Al-Judai.

The agreement aims to achieve joint cooperation in the field of promoting scientific exchange, research activities and community service.

It is worth mentioning that this agreement comes within a series of cooperation agreements between Al-Maarefa University and educational and training institutions with the aim of developing the research and educational environment.

Al-Maarefa University launches the Saudi Arabian Wellness Association (SAWA)

Al-Maarefa University announced the launch of the Saudi Arabian Wellness Association (SAWA), and the launch of its visual identity in an official ceremony, under the patronage of His Excellency the President of the University, Prof. Walid bin Hussein Abu Al-Faraj, and the presence of a group of specialists and those interested in scientific, research and societal practices related to the wellness industry.

The (Sawa) Association was established on 23 Rajab 1443 corresponding to February 24, 2022 by a decision of the Council of Al-Maarefa University, and was included among the scientific societies under the supervision of the General Secretariat of the Council of Universities Affairs at the Ministry of Education. Its objectives are to develop and promote the wellness industry in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia based on advanced applied theoretical knowledge, employing modern trends, techniques and evidence-based research.

Through methodology and solid scientific practices, Sawa will work in cooperation with the public and private sectors to activate the enablers of the wellness industry to contribute to achieving the wellbeing goals emanating from the vision of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 2030, stimulating creativity and innovation to spread cognitive, directional and behavioral awareness of the importance of wellness in the comprehensive wellbeing matrix, and strengthening fruitful relations with government institutions, including vision realization offices in the Ministry of Education, and the Ministry of Health, The Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Sports, and other relevant ministries and bodies to shape policies and maximize wellness values and practices in the life of the individual and society.

It is worth mentioning that Sawa Association was established at the initiative of a team that includes a group of local and international specialized experts in the field of health and medical education, businessmen who believe in their social responsibility towards their society, and senior executives, to build a national entity that extends with local and international strategic relations, with an ambitious pioneering vision in Region, in a professional setting in line with the vision of the Global Wellness Institute: “Wellness is the constant pursuit of activities and lifestyle choices that lead to a state of holistic health.”

It is noteworthy that the nucleus of the establishment of the association was formed by the proposal of Prof. Dr. Ibtisam bint Muhammad Al-Madi, Advisor to His Excellency the President of AlMaarefa University for Scientific Research and Development, who combines in her wealth a rich cumulative experience in the duality of education and health, as she assumed several leadership positions, including: Vice President of Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University (the largest women’s university in the world), and the establishment and deanship of the College of Dentistry at the same university, in addition to her tireless activity in promoting the concept and practices of the wellness industry throughout her scientific, research, and professional career. Healthy.

On the occasion of the inauguration of the association, Prof. Dr. Al-Madi, Chairman of the Founding Committee, said: “Those who follow the current health and societal situation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia notice that spreading and empowering the community health knowledge culture and practices is the common denominator for all initiatives of the Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to achieve the quality of life for every human being. Arab and foreign academics have discussed international standards for the accreditation of pharmacy programs in an effort to transfer standards to pharmacy faculties in Arab universities. This came during a workshop organized by the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Council of the Association of Arab Universities and in cooperation with the Council for the Accreditation of Pharmacy Education in the United States of America (ACPE) today on the international accreditation of pharmacy degree programs and the evaluation of pharmacy education. The workshop was attended by 30 participants from the universities of Syria, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Palestine, Lebanon and Jordan. During the two-day workshop, academics presented the methodology and specific criteria needed for ACPE accreditation for universities interested in obtaining international accreditation for pharmacy certificate programs. The Assistant Secretary-General of the Association of Arab Universities, Dr. Abdul Rahim Al-Hunaiti, said that the workshop provided an ideal opportunity to acquaint participants with the experiences of some Arab universities with ACPE accreditation. Dr. Al-Hunaiti added that the application of international standards for the accreditation of the pharmacy program in Arab universities will reflect positively on the pharmacy profession and on the educational outputs of the college for its compatibility with the requirements of the labor market. He pointed out that the application of international standards will contribute to enhancing opportunities for Arab pharmacy students to compete efficiently for academic seats to complete their higher education in prestigious international universities and enable faculty members to publish scientific research in international journals. Michael Ross, Executive Assistant at the American Accreditation Council for Colleges of Pharmacy, gave a detailed explanation of the American Accreditation Council, explaining that the Council cooperates closely with the countries of the Middle East, India, Indonesia, Northern Cyprus, Pakistan and Namibia, expecting its work to expand in the future to other countries around the world. Ross explained the details of the requirements, standards and benefits related to applying for international accreditation from the American Accreditation Council for Colleges of Pharmacy. During a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Abeer Al-Ghananim of Sullivan University and Advisor at the American Accreditation Council for Colleges of Pharmacy, Academon from the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia presented their experiences and discussed the advantages and results of international accreditation. During the second session of the workshop, Dr. Fadi Al-Khatib, a evaluator at the American Accreditation Council in Colleges of Pharmacy, focused on the important topic of evaluation in pharmacy education, describing assessment tools, direct and indirect evaluations, surveys, results of evaluation activities and data. In the last session, Dr. Iman Bishiti from the Applied Sciences Private University in Jordan, and Dr. Mohammed Rahhal, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Lebanese International University in Lebanon, spoke with the participants about the importance of international accreditation for students, through the experience of their colleges with the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.

The King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Action in cooperation with Knowledge University implemented a program – via video communication – to qualify health volunteers, build their capacities and provide them with knowledge about the culture of volunteering and improving health practices in humanitarian work, as well as introducing participants to the governance and scope of health volunteering locally and internationally, and giving them the skills to prioritize the provision of health assistance in the relief context.
This program comes as an activation of the memorandum of cooperation between the King Salman Relief Center and the Knowledge University signed in August 2021, and to achieve the strategic objectives of the Center to qualify volunteers to participate in the humanitarian relief efforts provided by the Kingdom through the Center.
